Dusty’s for breakfast…it’s a must and for either lunch or dinner, RUMI. I was treated to both restaurants and the later was on a Sunday night by one of the property owners and this middle-eastern influenced restaurant was a delight for my taste buds. Starting with the freshly made Hummus and continuing into our lamb and desert of course. Treat your mouth and stomach to one of the wonders of world. Well, I guess you know I had a great time in Montreal, buts what‘s going to Montreal without checking out it’s poutine which I tried at…ask Isabelle from HI - Monteral. And if you’re looking to impress, then you must go by Ferrari Restaurant & Café for traditional Italian Cuisine and enjoy the hospitality of Ferrari.

Moncton, New Brunswick: It all starts and ends with this vegetarian restaurant called Cialatus. For all artists and/ or anyone just wanted to know what going on, well just go and talk to the staff

A little later that afternoon at 14:15 finding a white building at the end of a street and it’s HI – Montreal and I proceed to meet Isabelle Boyer for our visitation meeting. I open the doors to enter into a colorful and a very informative activity board full of activities to help create some atmosphere within this hostel. The front desk staff is friendly and informs Isabelle that I’m here and we meet also with Jacques Perrault. First we start with a tour of the rooms and facilities that the patrons have access to. All the rooms are ensuite, which is great for those that like some privacy and each room has long mirrors so no fear…you can do a last minute check before you go down to the bar area. That’s right you can go downstairs and have a drink, play some pool, baby feet and even some board games. When you build up your appetite then hopefully you would have picked up some groceries and now be ready to make yourself towards the self-catering kitchen. You get a cubby to store your dry food, eight stovetop burners are available and some basic recycling facilities. Well, my cooking wasn’t put to the test but Isabelle, Jacque and I went to a traditional Italian Cuisine called Ferrari and I was very impressed, now this may not appear to be a backpackers budget, but Hi – Montreal is working on affiliations with businesses in the area so that you may experience a variety of choices that will make your stay in Montreal memorable, but most important…have you come back again. You can’t come here without looking to experience some ice…that’s right, talk to staff ‘bout tickets to see the Montreal Canadians whom play for the NHL. This is not just any kind of a sporting event here, it’s a lifestyle. I wasn’t here during game time but I did go see a hockey styled comedy improv that was celebrating its 40th year at the Café Campus. This was an event to see, now you all know I’m English speaking and I had a ball…body language goes beyond our limited language, believe me…you heard it here first…lol. I was told to come the next night and the disco is all crazy fun...I was introduced to this by Isabelle from Hi – Montreal and after missing my last bus to my friends’ house, it was decided that getting a private room would be my best option…wow!!! I had a great sleep and even though it wasn’t planned, this happened to be one of those times that you go with the flow and enjoy. I get up in the morning by 6:00 and start working by inputting data that won’t be soon forgotten. I’ve had a very good time in Montreal and the hospitality has been great! Better than Great, I’ve had a very good experience here so, I definitely want to make some more stops here in the future…Now after you’ve read my experience on my last day in the Hemorrhoids section then you’ll soon realize that I’m still here in Montreal and writing away. Well, I’ll be confirming my bus plans shortly and going west means I’ll be using two different bus services to get to my destination. I still have so much updating to do so I’ll continue with my Thank You and report letters for all those that have been visited and fill out form reports for the office so everyone knows what I’m doing while traveling around North America, supporting properties that work along with Hostelbookers.

It’s Monday October 16th and I’ve been up from ‘bout 06:30, so not much sleep last night after a great dinner at RUMI. I still can’t pick up an internet connection so I call and confirm my two appointments today. My first appointment is with Roberto Chinn-Foo from Auberge Maeva Montreal at 11:30, so I better leave shortly because I’m really not impressed with the local transportation here. I follow directions to Metro Lucien Allier and this property is literally just two minutes away but I realize that when I was departing because they probably didn’t want me to get lost so I got another set of directions…lol. Upon my arrival I see Roberto leaving and I immediately know it’s him even though we haven’t met yet and he soon returns and then we formally introduce ourselves. I’m offered a beverage and then we sit in the kitchen area with his wife Karina and Robin who seems to watch over the computers and implementing a more efficient environment. I start informing Roberto and Karina that this meeting is suppose to be a very relaxed meeting and I’m not her to place judgment, rather I’m here to support their business needs and how we can look to advance your bookings by taking a more detailed look at your facilities and area. It takes a while but it seems like Robert is trying loosen up and then we continue on some of the advantages of coming to his property. Immediately, I can see why past patrons see this has a homely environment…lots of interaction in the kitchen area, food seems to do that. I didn’t get her name but the cleaning lady is all smiles and cheerful, always reminding me how clean this place is and that I should have come when she’s finished, but I remind her that anything she touches will shine…not sure if she understood me, but she smiled even more. You see I do introduce myself but I like people thinking that I’m just one of the many people coming to stay…and then drop it on them. Each room got it’s on personality or at least a different color and all those that I saw had a sink and cabinets that could easily double up as lockers if they work it out and do a little work. Did I say this place was colorful…well, if I didn’t now you know. Roberto and Karina are world travelers and should have some stories to tell you, I didn’t ask if there’s a story behind the snow shoes but you can. No ensuites here, but if there was that would take away from their focus of their personal interpretation of what a hostel was and is. By the time you read this Robin may have started a cycle or walking tour, so I’m cheering you on mate and enjoy.

The walk takes me about ½ hour and I’m lead into a district of cafes, fashion, restaurants and art. I’m not clear where I am but I’m walking up St. Denis towards Mont-Royal and it’s vibrant and beautiful, has well are the people directing me to my next destination. When I arrive and once we’ve identified one another, Pierre asks me to wait 10minutes…if you’re checking in for the first time you’ll need to remember that it begins at 17:00. We finally make our way upstairs and I’m seating in the kitchen area and we begin to converse about some of the challenges of the business. While this is going on, the dog of the hostel named Skippy is racing back and forth. So for all you pet lovers…this is a pet friendly environment, but I very much suggest that you call ahead and clear it all first with Pierre. Like many properties that I’m visiting it’s about creating a environment for the market of the property in discussion, so we start looking at the feedback offered by the past guests that have stayed and commented. It’s about getting a good night sleep and taking advantage of this great location. Pierre and I talked about getting some more information about the happenings and places to hang out for certain flavours of people that will enter his doors. Come here and be your own personal chef and with such large lounge rooms you can easily be able to interact so leave your shyness at the airport…you know what I mean…outside. Pierre also has a great information board in the kitchen area…I guess he likes the kitchen has much as I do. Like I’ve said before, the kitchen is a great meeting place and good food always puts a smile on someones face…even in the dead of winter. If the food fails well, Pierre will direct you to a restaurant downstairs or down the way…whoooa, there’s goes skippy again…that dog got some character, skippy will definitely put a smile on your face. The Globetrotter Montreal has two floors and some rooms have bigger windows than others but all good lighting. One of the rooms actually made me think that I was back in Italy…love you Sylvia that was a great trip. If your looking to make a quick run to Toronto then I see on the board that Pierre has the 411 on getting you there for $40. don’t know the conditions but Pierre doesn’t bite, so ask. Get a good nites sleep and enjoy the area, especially if you appreciate the arts.

Moments later, probably closer to 13:00…Jean drops me off further down the street to St. Denis, so that I go to meet Terisita of Hotel Montreal Espace Confort. I walk up the stairs to wait is probably the newly renovated and well kept budget accommodation. We both looked at each other in the reception area to confirm that I was in the right place and once that was acknowledged it was all dreamy after that. I was welcomed with an espresso by Daniela whom sat me down with a beautiful smile, while I assembled my work together before Terisita meets with me. As I mentioned earlier, it’s all about updating my data immediately while I can instead of later. Terisita introduces herself to me and I the same and we proceed with our meeting in the breakfast/ dining area that I find out later through conversation that it’s sometimes rented out for business meetings because it’s loaded with audio/ visual accessories. The layout here is incredible and If your having any sort of meeting or studying, then here would be the place to make a very professional presentation. We continue to update has much pages as possible and then Daniela will be giving me a tour of the facilities. And while all this happening, Terisita is putting together lunch…for a place that’s has sharp as it is, your treated like family…home sweet home. I need to speak about the tour and get my mind of food for a minute…lol…Has we walk through the doors and escorted to the room, I’m feeling that I’m in a hotel and that the rooms confirm my thoughts. Everything is so neat, clean and smells fresh with all your amenities to keep people comfortable in their room. Future plans will encourage more interaction and fun between the different guests so that there’s less isolation. It’s that type of privacy that I believe separates the budget accommodations against hotels, that ability to feel like you’re at home with friends just hanging, but everyone looking for something interesting to do. Back to the tour, I know I can get sidetracked sometimes…okay I’m back on course. Even with these facilities Terista welcomes all types of groups they should contact her prior to arrival. Now back to the dining room area, showcased is a Mexican artist. Terista supports arts in Montreal and creative talents in poetry by giving people a place to showcase their talents. Many surprises are in store to make this an ideal place to enjoy your espresso, view and talk ‘bout local and foreign artist and sleep like a king/queen when your ready to shut some eye…let’s see what happens by the time summer comes around.

It’s Friday October 13th and I’m sitting on the couch ‘cause I’ve been up from 06:00 typing and updating my files, resizing pictures and I’m looking at the time, realizing that I better get ready and go see Nathalie of Auberge Chez Jean for 10:00. Give me a couple minutes to shave, bathe and get off to my appointment. I’ll talk to later and let you know how it all goes. I’m finally off and sitting here at the bus stop waiting for the local bus here. During that time it gives me a few moments to pick up a connection and try to send off some emails. The bus takes about ½ hour and I finally get on, but call in my appointment and inform Nathalie that I’ll be a bit late. I make my way to Villa Marie and get off at Mont Royal, walk out the station and go left a couple of streets and continue till I reach. My first impression of this hostel is a open concept loft with people everywhere. Nathalie makes me a cup of tea and we start chit-chatting about the area and what they’re actually doing at their hostel. This trip is a bit different; to lesson my workload after my meeting I now bring out the laptop and start updating all files immediately, something that worked well from my last appointment the prior day with Katia. Nathalie works with Jean and she gives him a call and then he makes his way over, so I update him on our conversations and go over section by section. This open concept is only for a few who just don’t mind that there’s NO privacy, but the atmosphere of sharing and interaction is very evident. There’s a Japanese lady in the kitchen who is preparing sushi for some of the people staying and I’m told that people just pick up food for those that choose to cook and share with other persons…very communal. There’s a lot of information posted on the board for people to participate in a variety of activities and have some brief knowledge ‘bout what the hostel is about through their Newsletter that they publish each month. Nathalie and Jean are very accommodating and make sure that everyone is satisfied. Now the tour, I walk around to the patio where people can have breakfast in the morning or go out for a smoke and view some of the artwork on the building. We go down the swirl staircase and what I think is an oversized locker is actually an outdoor shower…wow…This is not a misprint…lol…the shower is outside behind a shutter door. I thought it would be a bit nippy at this time of year, but Jean suggests that it’ll be in use for one more week…another wow from the lady inside when we accidentally pulled the door. There seemed to be beds everywhere and if you really want to live out the seventies…Jean has a van on the ground floor parked on stilts which includes a bed inside and literally outside the door is another outdoor toilets and shower...The van thing would be all good but because there’s no luggage room so it could get a little crammed. And their showers and toilets are just outside the door, literally. I forget to mention that the main floor bath/shower is in the same room as the laundry room and they actually sell condoms for $1. It must be working because there’s only one left…people are having personal fun. After the tour we make our way back upstairs and exchange t-shirts and more Hostelbookers marketing tools…pens, pamphlets and my business card. After asking about directions, Jean kindly offers me a ride to my next location. He’s a very interesting character and is very passionate about what he does. This seems like something that has long as he has breath, he’ll own hostels.

Thank goodness I do and my first appointment with Katia is on but the rest need adjustments…COMMUNICATION WORKS, so I’m off to see Katia of Vacances Canada M.D. Youth Hostel

Moving around Montreal

I use the <a href="http://www.metrodemontreal.com/index-e.html" target=_blank">metro which is the local transit in Montreal and I have to hold my tongue having to deal with the man at the ticket booth. I don’t know if his impression of me is homeless because of my bags but I don’t believe so because already the friendly women of Montreal are directing me to my first appointment. Take the orange line (Henri-Bourassa) to Laurier, walk out at the Laurier exit and go west (right) and make a right at the second light and it’s the school building on the left. I walk up the stairs and for some reason I feel like I’m in the alps…I know crazy, must be because I’ve just walked 10 minutes in the pouring rain. I open the door to be greeted behind a window by a beautiful smile…that’s always refreshing, I don’t ask for much. That was Katia, whom I have my appointment with and she directs me into the office so that I can relax for a while and start our meeting. We chat for a while and I’m trying but off course, I don’t have an internet connection, so we go for a tour of the property. We take an elevator upstairs and I’m thinking that this would be a great place for the physically challenged but the entrances are all stair cases…let see if she changes that for the future and make it more accessible. We make our way to one of the rooms and right away you recognize how room is in this property, it’s very spacious and the rooms are the same. This place is very, very simple and doesn’t have any bells or whistles at all but it does have some lockers in the dorms, ensuite and a bed. So, if your just looking for a place to sleep and your not concerned ‘bout the beauty or atmosphere, but more what you can do outside of the property then this is a budget accommodating place to stay…it’s cheap and you get what you pay for. This would be a great place for sports teams and/or any groups because of the room size. There are up to 240 beds and they are all dorms…no worries they won’t mix individuals with groups. Actually Katia could easily accommodate 400 people here if she really wanted to by throwing in some bunk beds. Lets see what happens, so calling all big groups that are looking to be in the same location, have access baggage and like some privacy.

I arrive at 13:00, still September 22nd at HI – Niagara Falls Rainbow Hostel to meet with Sheena Swirlz. I enter this vibrant colored building and enter through the side door for all guest and check-ins. Now I had walked from my previous appointment and it’ took me 30 minutes to walk down and there less than 5 minutes from the Niagara Falls Bus Terminal, so when your on your way out, it’s just a quick walk away and if your driving they provide free parking. Like all Hostels International that I’ve visited their reception area is filled with an abundance of information and necessary items that you might need to make your trip easier. Oh! How could I forget, the hmmm scent, it’s the aroma of organic coffee brewing that offered to all it’s guest. I get the friendly reception smile, like their expecting my visit (you’ll have to check my Milan trip…lol). Sheena offers me a choice of beverages and actually my hesitation to answer is not just because I’m a crazy brotha, but admiring the artwork that supports the handy work of past and current persons whom have passed through these doors. Even down to the Organic compose, there NO waste of food here in the common kitchen and if guests leave food, well it just gets passed on…yes, good food only. One second, Sheena is checking the oven…baking potatoes bits in the oven with herbs that they grow from their onsite garden. Okay, I know I’m talking a bit, so you want to play. Well, let’s play some pool…FREE for now down below in the basement by the TV room (bring a movie or your neighborhood video store), your thought provoking exchange library and lockers. Oh! I hope I’m not tiring you out, if so then you can go to one of their earthly themed rooms or just grab a basic and all are shared facilities…don’t be shy. And HI enjoys groups to the maximum of 50 persons and all preferences and types are accepted, but if you’d like to make some changes then you better give two weeks notice or deal with the wrath of…well someone. In the summer there are free guided tours. Now you can check out a variety of things to do for $3./hr on the internet.

A quick nap

After a quick nap we can go on one of the many tours that HI – Niagara Falls Rainbow Hostel can direct you too. Eco – tourism, butterfly conservatory, trails, biking isn’t a problem neither is hiking. Oh! You don’t want to leave to far from the roost, then you can enjoy the patio, while watching guests play badminton, basketball and then we can sit by the fire and sing songs, play drums, guitars…hey Sheena pass me the tambourine….thanks and let me play.

Wake up! To a meat free continental breakfast and HI offers vouchers for the diner or restaurant next door, if you’re feeling for some bacon and sausage for $2.75.

A great eco-friendly place to stay and enjoy <a href="http://www.niagarafalls.ca/index2.asp" target=_blank">Niagara Falls!

Its 14:27 and I just got back, feeling a bit tired, but I better start writing and deciphering the recordings, so I don’t get further behind. Well I guess you know I’ve left to get some food and watch the TV watch me…lol…good night boys and girls. Oh shit! I can hear the person next door snoring…going to need a little night drink to sleep through that noise. That person better be by themselves…well not my business…but got me putting both pillows over my head and mediating on ignoring any sounds.

Its 08:15, Saturday September 23rd and I’m waking, well still tired so I put my head down and then I look back up and it’s now 09:10 and my appointment is for 11:00 at Backpackers International, I guess I really enjoyed my sleep. Jump into the shower and get my things organized, say my byes and taxi it to my next location.

Everything is for a reason so I meet a man, taxi driver whom has lost everyone in his life to drunk driving and I mean everyone…no worries I won’t start preaching, but with the luxury of roaming around just careful when getting behind the wheel. It’s better to book a room via Hostelbookers.com and sleep it off then driving and in must cases a room is the price of a bottle…that’s all. Now, I enter Backpackers International and meet Jocelyn for my meeting and I’m stunned immediately by the workmanship in this Victorian home. The original home is crafted by an English trade’s man that was contracted and made in total 5 historical homes in the vicinity. We start with a tour with private and dorm rooms throughout the building which has rooms from 1 – 6 persons in this 38 room house. This all wooden bed home is filled with an abundance of antiques from the early 1800’s…no doubt character is in every corner of this house. The common kitchen has a wooden church bench with tables and chairs and all your necessities. Oh! Yes, some of the items were from a couple of hundred years ago, since there was a Catholic and Anglican Church that got torn apart and some of the wood and pieces were used in the structure of this home. Now, you can actually sit down on just talk ‘bout some of the history here and early Niagara history. If you like search on the free internet service that is offered and/or read in their exchange library in their beautifully antiqued assembled lounge room. What makes this special is the hospitality here. Once you enter your family and will be treated so, lots of respect to go around and repeat customers. Same day booking here if rooms are available and parking is free so bring the vehicle if you’d like or do like me…greyhound it, since they’re barely a 5 minute walk to the bus station.

September 22nd, 10:00 soon after breakfast, I quickly strap on my backpacks and make my way to see Moe Merani of Hotel Red Carpet Inns & Suites for our 10:30 appointment. I accidentally walk out to not have any real idea where I’m going but then out of no where I see a big sign by the Kraft factory that reads; Red Carpet Inns & Suites, so I follow the arrow. I spot a motel that looks almost abandoned and I read on the door that the motel office is beyond this point. I’m still lost, looking for Kitchener Street and wondering if there’s more than one location for this property. I walk around to the office, which has a very big open space. I’m greeted by the receptionist and he informs Mr. Moe Merani that I’m present. I sit down and wait and start observing; maps of Niagara Falls area, currency exchange rate board, swimming pool, large parking lot and workers keeping the place intact for the next set of guests.

I finally enter and meet Mr. Moe Merani who’s very welcoming to see <a href="http://www.hostelbookers.com/" target=_blank">Hostelbookers.com. I inform him that I’ll be recording because I’m too lazy to write it all down and then I proceed. This seems to Moe’s life since he’s here 24/7 and the main contact person for groups and or anything that goes on here. Moe proceeds to give me a breakdown of his property, but what he really would like to know is how to market it better. So, boys and girls are you ready?

That pool that I observed earlier, well Moe will be having BBQs’, who’s in?

Well, why not have some pool games, while were all wet…lol

Let's go for a dip!!

The only property we work with here in Niagara Falls with a swimming pool so let’s go for a dip and till the next morning if you’d like. I must it got my interest right away, it’s opened from Mid May till Mid September…unless you want to go for a night swim. But you can always talk to Moe ‘bout getting a room with a Jacuzzi and there’s lots of bubbles to go around. If you’d like just a simple room too, that’s all there with your basic TV, couch and table. I know ‘bout the TV, it put me to sleep last night, since I had no one to share the Jacuzzi with me…any sympathy from anyone out there? Yes, it was me and some fast food and work, couldn’t find any distractions. I even walked downtown in the tourist district which is only a 5 minute walk from the central core of it all, that’s right just a 10 minute walk to one of the wonders of the world; Niagara Falls and the entire city has developed for you and your experience. You and your whole group can enjoy the adventures that Niagara Falls has to offer since Moe will accept any group preference and the bigger the group will be served a continental breakfast. While I was there, there was a baseball team there, maybe even more. A 24 hour reception will gladly direct you to your private ensuite room filled with your basic necessities. Feeling cold, turn up the heat…feeling hot, turn up the cool air, all just a hand touch away. Pick your choice of 3 large buildings…I’d go for the one that encompasses the pool, unless your just looking for some privacy.

arrive at the Montreal Bus terminal ‘bout 23:48, just in time to catch the 23:59 to Niagara Falls. I’m still a bit puzzled why this trip is going to take 16 hours so upon my arrival I go and talk to the information booth. Only to be informed that the bus I’m here to catch is taking a super long route to my destination. The bus leaves Montreal and then travels to Ottawa at 02:00 and then I have to catch a connecting bus from there at 07:00 and no, this is not a misprint, nor mistype. Of course I had to confirm it when I got to Ottawa and I took a look around, talked to security and found out where’s the best place in this bus station to sleep and I made my way to steel mesh benches. I tossed left, right, sat up and did it all over again…please don’t ask me what order…lol. Rethinking, maybe I should have called one of my girlfriends in the area and slept in a bed for a few hours, but then I quickly changed my mind and hit the wired benchs. Out of the 5 hours till my next bus I slept for about 2 and tried to get some work done.

It’s September 21st at 07:00 and I pick up my 70lbs worth of gear, oh! For those don’t know pounds, it’s about 5 stones and make my journey to my next connection which will be Toronto. That’s right, if you guessed that I had to wait for another bus while in Toronto then you get a cookie…ask me for one when you see me. But this time I phoned a friend to meet me, I didn’t want to have another few hours pass and not have a woman to talk too, eat with nor laugh with. The famous Roxanne whom is a local graphic artist, artist and just a sweet person hung out with me till my next departure to my final destination…Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Its 14:00 that same day and I’m finally off to Niagara Falls to meet 4 of the properties that we work with, I’ll start of first with Lyons House Hostel. After some technical difficulties with our Greyhound bus…wheelchair ramp wouldn’t get back in at the St. Catherine’s terminal. But I finally arrive ‘bout 16:30 and inform Mr. Joseph Lyons that I’ve arrived and that I’ll be taking a taxi to his property, but he was having none of that and my instincts told me not to argue with him, so he came and picked me up at the Niagara Falls bus terminal. On the way back he gave me a tour of some of the other properties that I’ll be visiting and their proximity to the tourist area.

How, when, where, why and what

17:00 at Lyons Hostel House we sit in the office and start chatting away, I’ve found out so much about the character of how, when, where, why and what brings Mr. Joseph Lyons here today. Traveled from England to St. Catherine’s and finally finding a home in Niagara Falls. Well, I’m glad I didn’t argue with him earlier ‘bout picking him up because I met some of his acquaintances and friends from pictures…see Joseph was a middle weight fighter and his friends are Muhammad Ali, Floyd Patterson, Tree Williams, Jersey Joe Walcott, Archie Moore, George Chuvalo, Billy Conn, Kid Gavilan…I could just go on and on, so if your familiar with boxing, then this you’ll be MORE THAN DELIGHTED TO SIT DOWN AND CONVERSE ‘BOUT SOME OF THE GREAT FIGHTS. Now we know he was a past boxer, well at the Lyons Hostel House you get what you pay for and a no stress atmosphere so if your looking for pretty, this isn’t your place. But if you’re looking for simple, clean, affordable and the freedom of maneuvering around the tourist district, especially the falls which are only a 5 minute walk away, well with my long legs then this is the place. The reception is open from 08:00 till 22:00 come on this is a husband and wife team and they need to sleep too…lol, but they will make arrangements with all late arrivals. Rachael Lyons is the wife of Joseph and I haven’t seen her much but she has left an impact. I have to thank her for my ummm…so COMFORTABLE BED. Honestly, this is the best sleep I’ve had in weeks…well the best sleep I have had by myself in weeks…lol. You have shared bathroom and kitchen facilities for your floor, there are 3 floors plus a basement. There is FREE internet in the lounge area with a 27’ TV and sofa, also downstairs in the basement. Each room has its own key and closet but if you still have too much luggage Mr. Joseph Lyons can place it in the office for you for no charge, which is the same fee for parking…FREE. This place is very affordable for its location but at this time they don’t accept any form of plastic, it’s all about the cash till further notice. There are safety deposit boxes so your valuables are safe and so will your wallet be after staying here.

September 22nd at 8:55 and I better go check those 24 hour hot shower that I was told ‘bout…talk to you later and I’ll let you know how that was and the complimentary breakfast of bread, bagels, jams and the constantly served coffee and tea. Oh! Yes I like to procrastinate, but the Lyons accept all groups here and have a total of 40 beds, so if you’re coming down for educational reasons or to have your last single party before you say I do…then call the Lyons. Okay I’m off to take my shower…lol

It’s still September 22nd at 09:25…Just had my shower and there was plenty hot water, sweet especially after knowing it’s been nippy both mornings and night here…well, I better go enjoy some breakfast and off to my next meeting.

A great centrally located place to get a good nights sleep!

I take a look and it’s still raining but we’re going to make the most if it today on Thursday October 19th, 2006.

My next appointment is with Scott Stewart of the HilIhurst Inn and I appreciate that he’s been very flexible regarding our schedule. I rush over from the house to the bus station which is 3 minutes away, once I state to the driver that I’m coming I just have to check my ticket and he seems to be in a funny mood telling me that’s he’s leaving, but I just laugh him off. I go inside and if you’re traveling to the PEI, just know that your going to be reqired to pay a fee to cross the bridge, it’s nothing much…probably about $2.10. I probably not hiding it well, but my face looks like I’m in a rush and the elder ahead of me said the bus wasn’t going to leave because it would mean that it would be such bad business and we laughed about but the ticket lady didn’t think it was so funny. Anyways, we both got on the bus and it was onwards to PEI and I was just waiting to get my opportunity to go over the bridge and to see the demonstration of power once glaring over the ocean. The engineering involved is just remarkable, we must hav been on the bridge for at least five minutes. Watching the waves dip in and out of each other crashing, sliding and mesmerizing me. The bus dropped us all at the terminal which is literally just in front of <a href="http://welcome.upei.ca/" target=_blank">Prince Edward Island University so I got some directons to see Scott Stewart at Hillhurst. With no money in my pocket, I walk in the rain for about ½ hour till I reach a street full of bed and breakfasts. No, I’m joking around money is in my pocket but it’s one of those times I want to walk in the rain and take my time to take in some of the city knowing that I won’t be here too long. I call and and Scott knows that I’m in the area then I enter into this historical building that is home to travelers from all around the world. Has you enter, the first thing you notice is the antiques that shows off the history of this structure. The woodwork will have you droop, the paintings make you think that your at Soethby’s…can’t even spell it, but you know what I mean the auction house. And this is where you eat, sleep, laugh…whooo, no playing unless your open to a game of chess in the lounge area in some very comfortable seating. All of the rooms are ensuite..well except one, but you’ll have more than enough room for you not to be crashing into each other, but hold your partner and daydream for a while…I guess some of you didn’t know that I was a romantic, oh yesss! In a place like this you’re definitely feeling like a king and/or queen. Even to the way I was served tea and some coffee cake I guess you’ve realized I’m use to, ‘hey it on the top shelf and get me some too’….lol. Seriously, this is a place can be your little luxury for has long as you’d like and credit cards are accepted. When you talk to Scott, he’ll share with you some of his experience to some of the parks and many of the evernt s in the area. Yes, he’s well connected to what’s going on in Prince Edward Island and will make sure that you enjoy your time. We discussed that it’ll also be advantagouos for him to mention on his site. Too bad I’m not staying tonight because there a Led Zepplin special tonite, well I’m gong to have to make another trip out here. Just not enough time but for all you traveling the maritimes is filled with fun, excitement, pride and friendliness…everyone would like to show you how beautiful these places are…that’s if your open to having fun. Not big enough for a large group, but if there’s six of you then you’ll be tickled. And that’s before you take advantage of the Hillhurst honour system bar, that’s right put your money in the box and sip some wine with your partner tonight.

Its 13:10 and I’m still on the phone with Dell ‘bout some computer problems, but I’m not going to miss my appointment with Shirley and Larry Woods of Tranquility Base Bed & Breakfast. My cousin and I make our way via the round-a-bout and I ring the bell and introduce myself to Shirley. She smiles and seats me down to have we talk ‘bout how many things there are to do in Ancaster. This is a bed and breakfast that will truly make you feel like you’re in mama’s kitchen. Shirley is cooking some chicken pot pie and baking a cherry pie. In the morning you’ll be delighted to have some homemade jam to spread over your morning breakfast toast, bagel and/or English muffin. Not quite big enough for groups but great for couples since there are 3 bedrooms and two are ensuite. Also, there are many dolls upstairs, yes, dolls; some are antique, glamorous, some depicted in glass cases showcasing a love of dolls. You’ll see some in carriages, sitting in chairs and some are made by your host; Shirley Woods. Now I haven’t seen Larry yet, but I hear a cough so I’m thinking he’s around somewhere...lol. Now, Ancaster is listed in the city of Hamilton to create a greater area. Now, there’s no Snow White here, but there’s an Apple Festival in Stoney Creek. If you’re looking for a fair then come to the midway at the Ancaster Fair. And if you haven’t got enough Maple Syrup for your pancakes then there’s always a festival for it during the spring. But why stop there, especially when you involve yourself in an informal environment designed to celebrate the <a href="http://www.hamiltonfringe.ca/" target=_blank">Hamilton Fringe Festival. You can either check it out prior to coming or on your FREE internet service provided by Tranquility Base Bed & Breakfast. Most cards are accepted, but if your coming by late, please call. Now, Shirley doesn’t do tours but there are Historical and Bike tours in the area, Hiking and walking trails and tours of museums and art galleries. Oh! Did I tell that there are 10 falls in the area within a ten mile radius…awesome! Check it out and some are situated round restaurants, if your up for some romance-tolerant

Who’s up for Hamilton Mardi Gras?

On that note, I better continue working out some sales and my plans for sleeping arrangements tomorrow, since there’s no room in Woodstock for me and they want me in Hensall later in the day, well since I have a stopover in London I might have to go there and hangout till then…I’ll keep you posted since this looks like its going to be another sleeping experience…talk to you soon!

Wednesday September 27th and I arrive at 10:13 to the <a href="http://www.gmtma.org/hampark.htm" target=_blank">Hamilton train station. I get there 17 minutes earlier than I was informed from greyhound customer service to get my bus on time to Woodstock, Ontario. I check with the attendant to see at what bay my bus arrives and I’m sadly informed that my bus left at 10:00. I look at the date and time fixed behind the attendant and I’m fully aware by his homely expression that it’s not April Fools Day. So, I inquire when will next bus be leaving for my destination and tells me at 13:50, so I just say, ‘ahhhhhhhh!’ I eventually make my way to another wire bench and seat myself down and start working away by sending emails letting properties that, Hostelbookers is trying to make its way across North America to see you. Get this done while trying to stay online some how, some way so that I can email the office and properties, my connection continues to get interrupted so I make my way outdoors to see if that will serve me a better connection and it does for a while. All of a sudden there’s no connection for some reason, my ass is hurting from sitting on metal and wooden benches. You’d think with all this dam technology that we’d get some extra cushion for our ass. What doesn’t some on invent it so that you can put water in it…something like a water bed that would be somewhat puncture proof so that it could endure any horse play by mischievous persons?

It still September 27th and only an hour before this bus comes and I’m trying not to fall asleep…I think everyone knows that if you sit me too long indoors that I’m going to…wake me up when the bus arrives, please. I think it’s the last bus till midnight. Hey! I haven’t heard from either Ed or Juan, they must both be playing some 5 aside football after work again…almost 18:00 in the England and everyone’s thinking ‘bout dinner while I know I can’t make a move with the weight on my shoulders just to get food…I’ll wait till I get to Woodstock and walk 2 km to my destination. I plan to go to Toronto after since the destination didn’t offer me a complimentary place to stay and the said the place is full anyways, so time to build up some muscles again…lol…I will have an even stronger back when this is all finished. I still got to tell the properties in Ottawa that I intend to come down, I gave them all a call now I just have to send an email. No worries, I will when I get back online. That’s the biggest challenge, being able to get online in different parts of the province…it’s going to be real fun in those rural areas, I better look for the local police station or city hall and borrow some airtime…lol

Ahhhhhhh! Where’s the bus, no I’m not frustrated, just tired….snoring, snoring, snoring…those guys aren’t calling, guess I talk to them tomorrow!

Time for some Corinne bailey Rae…like a star

Feeling better again! Thanks

11:45 just after my first of two meetings today, I go to the Niagara Falls Bus Terminal and wait for my bus to Toronto, for a two hour bus ride. My meeting is with Mike and Edison of Downtowner Inn, whom I had tried to meet earlier but failed. Moe Merani has the cell number for Mike so, now it’s all done and we’re meeting and on top of all that I’ve been given a complimentary stay for the weekend. And yes I’m working for the whole weekend…Wow!! I can see the <a href="http://www.cntower.ca/portal/" target=_blank">CN Tower, so I’m almost there well kind of because the traffic in downtown Toronto on the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gardiner_Expressway" target=_blank">Gardiner Expressway/ Queensway is stifling and seems to always be congested, nothing easy here but lots of beautiful water, green and people enjoying the outdoors on this seemingly cloudy day…boats galore, yes for my birthday please…lol…whoops! I almost hit the seat a head of me…deadlock traffic. We arrive and I pick up my bags and my way to a 117 Pembrooke along Dundas east to two blocks after Jarvis and make a left, proceeding north. My first impression is size of the front yard in the smack middle of downtown Toronto and its picnic benches and lawn chairs…already saying, come and relax with us.

It’s now 15:30 and Mike and I start our meeting by going through a brief tour, which shows more of the things that are in the plans to support the future clientele. Mike is passionate in making this business of his succeed to the highest level and we talked at great lengths and if he’s serious, this will be a before and after project. I informed that the category that will push his business is the low rating is FUN. He has some ideas ‘bout doing this and pushing memories and experiences; let’s see what happens. A time I wanted to have my camera around…oh! I didn’t tell you. It’s been gone for a couple of weeks, but have no fear because I’m getting a NEW one that will be even better and give you more of my experiences. Okay before I get real off topic…lol and no I’m not. All I was going to say that I meet some people that have booked their visit via <a href="http://www.hostelbookers.com/" target=_blank">Hostelbookers.com.

On Sunday September 24th, sometime after breakfast 10:00…I will get more through tour by Edison whom is the Manager, but till that time I will be going to a Grand Opening dinner at the Ramada and schmooze potential clients and media. I’m going to put the Shamba Amani smile!

How else do you expect me to spend WORKING nights?

Read up! And I’ll tell you what happened…Well; I entered (with Shamba Amani smile) and just walked on through. Spotted a friend of mine whom currently works in the hotel industry here in Toronto and sat in somebody’s seat, but I was a gentleman and asked the woman, then proceeded to get my own seat and added it to their table and got reintroduced. One of the persons at the table was the very beautiful Gretchen, whom is a concierge at the Comfort Suites and is also very passionate about her position and much like Hostelbookers.com is offering people memories and experiences. Also, seated was Patrick Rhein of Futuresources whom is a facilitator and coaching from within. Who’s all about personal and businesses maximizing your power within. I also, met Paul, another concierge and then the person whom I had noticed earlier, Rodger from the Ramada Plaza Hotel who’s place of work was having a Restaurant Grand Opening featuring Executive Chef Keith Rees. Now, I saved my belly from food for the last three when I rvsp’d my invitation. We were served chicken chipote with bowtie pasta…Oh! This is a must, I could have eaten 10 plates full, but I had to behave since I was representing Hostelbookers.com…lol, then there was spiked Moroccan Chicken, a little then what I cook since I place mine all rolled up in thinly, lightly crisped pastry. Voodoo Chicken, Pomegranate Chicken with roasted garlic and spinach, spun mashed potatoes with certified Black Angus Beef with wild mushroom Marsala sauce and Jambalaya. I must say I had my fill and it was a very eventful evening of networking, only time will tell how successful it’ll be to add on some new properties that are also centrally located. One more glass of wine and I will call it a night and make my way back to the Downtowner Inn, but you know I’ll be chatting it up a bit more. I submerge under my sheets again for another restful night and in anticipation of the continental breakfast that is served from 7:00 till 10:00.

Sweet Dreams!

It’s 08:10, Sunday September 24th and I’m up, bathe, organize my bag and then off to breakfast. Well, let’s just say I abandoned that thought and went to Canada’s famous Tim Hortens and had a coffee and a toasted bagel. My lunch with Mike will be held tomorrow and I make my way to see friends and family and go have me a home cooked Caribbean dinner. Well, time to get my belly stuffed again and if I had my camera you’d be sitting at your computer drooling, no not over me…the food…lol.

Monday September 25th, means I’m working on sales…and you’re probably not interested so I just send out 10’s more emails, lets’ see if any other properties are looking to boost their occupancy rate via Hostelbookers.com. Talk to you tomorrow ‘bout my bus ride to Ancaster and throughout South Western Ontario.

Tuesday September 26th at 10:00 and I’m in Hamilton, Ontario at my cousin and his families home. Ancaster is actually 10 minutes away and now I’ll be fortunately getting a ride there. Yes, he a good belly laugh with me and the greyhound representative working out my itinerary for my travels throughout Ontario and the bus services that work with greyhound and the one that absolutely don’t. So now I’ve got to find an alternative route to Algonquin Park, Whitney and Winsloe Ontario…wish me some good fortune.
